Shockone
Hailing from Perth the epicenter of the Australasian drum and bass scene, ShockOne aka Karl Thomas is fast becoming one of D&B’s major talents.
Whilst 2009 saw ShockOne come of age (with the release of 'The ShockOne EP', featuring the chart topping 'Polygon', a track which received major air play world wide including high rotation on Australia's triple J and the UK’s Radio 1 with Annie Mac penning it as “THE biggest drum & bass tune out!”), 2010 could best be described as the year of the remix for ShockOne with his remix discography reading like a who's who of drum and bass and electronic music. Brookes Brothers, Netsk, Bcee, Chicane, Cutline and Mutya Buena & Agent X and Sarah McLeod have all received the ShockOne touch. He’s also released his highly anticipated Shockone ‘Re-fix’ EP, a collection of VIPS and remixes of the massively successful 2009 ‘ShockOne EP’.
Beatport loves him too with the “ShockOne EP’’s 3 tunes achieving the top 3 spots on the D’n’B chart, and 'Adachigahara's Theme' staying tight at No 1 on the dubstep chart for over 4 weeks, subsequently being voted as Beatport’s “No 1 All-Time Classic” dubstep tune.
ShockOne writes his music in a sweat box of a studio in an industrial area with air con blasting through a random door. And in 2010 he grew a beard, which has been very well received. Much like his music in fact. In 2009 he took out ‘Best Tune’ at the Perth Dance Music Awards for the 3rd year running (for track ‘Polygon’), as well as best D’n’B dj and best Broken Beat Producer for the 2nd year in a row. His remix of the Brookes Brothers epic ‘Crackdown’ was labeled ‘Album of The Week’ on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show and his collocations with Phetsta ‘The Sun 2009’ and ‘Cylones’ have also been favourably received worldwide.
Currently ShockOne is putting the finishing touches to his Debut LP due for release in 2011. This long awaited solo album is sure to push boundaries and cross genres in his typical fashion!
With his tracks being aired frequently by the scenes biggest hitters such as Andy C, Hype, Friction, High Contrast and Matrix + Futurebound, and his own sets including tracks from a diverse range of artists it is only a matter of time before you find yourself rocking out to ShockOne!
