Peacocks

“The sparrow is sorry for the peacock at the burden of his tail.” – Rabindranath Tangore

Peacocks carry a burden for the rest of us. They carry the weight of melody, and force themselves to endure insistent and endless rhythms. They play a light and fearless dance with our most primal passions. All in the name of celebration - driven to create explosions of joy and colour. And for a moment while these explosions ring through the air, we imagine ourselves transformed. No longer humble sparrows.

Formed in Melbourne in 2007, Peacocks have devoted themselves to their burden. They had all carried it alone, but with each other it developed new focus and power. From the start, Peacocks live shows were happenings, rather than ‘gigs’. Glittering prisms of guitar mingled with electronic thuds, sleazy saxophone jousted with constant drums, and a sexed-up choir of voices both real and imagined shouted over the heat.

From the sweaty orgies of their own performances, Peacocks have graced the stage with the Galvatrons, Chicks on Speed, Hadouken!, Dukes of Windsor, Art vs Science, Grafton Primary, Gameboy/Gamegirl and the Dardanelles. Members Josh Moriarty and Aaron Shanahan have also joined the Miami Horror live juggernaut, and Moriarty featured on lead vocals for Miami Horror single ‘Don’t Be On With Her’, and upcoming single ‘Sometimes’.

Peacocks have been busy recording their music, trying to capture the evasive moment of Balearic elation that party music can bring. Their 5 song EP ‘Slide Through the Night’ received a very limited release, but will be available online soon . Online release will also include their own remix of ‘Take It Off’ and Toxic Avenger’s remix of ‘Fast Lover’ . They’ve also been asked to add their hue and intensity to other artists' work so look out for remixes of Killa Kela (UK) and Former Child Stars (available on iTunes October 1st).
